Managing Disruption ... Not an Oxymoron for Today's PMO
The PMO is the ideal partner in managing disruptive change.
Managing disruption? Isn't that a contradiction in terms?
Here at PM Solutions, we don't think so. We think there are aspects of project and program management that make the PMO the ideal partner in managing disruptive innovation and change. And in tomorrow's webinar, a reprise of J. Kent Crawford's popular PMO Sympos
ium presentation "The Disruptive PMO," we'll share research and examples to back up this idea.
For example, more agile Project Portfolio Management, in part faciliated by improvements in PPM software, is allowing companies to reprioritize and analyze portfolios much more frequently. In fact, it was this use of PPM to review and tweak a massive portfolio of time-sensitive projects that led to Verizon Wireless's Marketing PMO being named 2012 PMO of the Year. When a company needs to "turn on a dime" in response to market forces, PPM is invaluable.
Organizational change management (OCM) is another process area where PMOs can make a huge impact in the success of major projects. The 2013 PMO of the Year, Canada Health Infoway, leveraged OCM processes on a nationwide software implementation. Total timeline? Less than three months ... a perfect "10" on the sort of program that is normally fraught with change resistance and technical complexity.
These and other examples will be shared in Kent's webinar. Join us and let's get those disruptive PMOs fired up and ready to roll.
